Koloa
2003, 16.1 hand, homozygous black Friesian Sporthorse mare
Sire: Pieter fan Lutke Peinjum (imported Friesian stallion)
Dam: Rubelro (Percheron)
Koloa is a homozygous black 16.1h Friesian Sporthorse mare by the imported Friesian stallion Pieter fan Lutke Peinjum, and out of a Percheron mare Rubelro. Koloa looks and moves more like a purebred Friesian, with a big ground-covering trot, and is often mistaken for a purebred.
Koloa's sire Pieter fan Lutke Pienjum was the highest ranking Friesian stallion on the USEF's Leading Dressage Sire list for 2009. He is the sire of numerous successful Friesian Sporthorses and Friesian crosses, including the 2006 FSH Horse of the Year Charleston, who is one of the
only Friesian Sporthorses in the US to date to have earned his Silver Elite Book status (via performance). Charleston competed successfully thru Fourth Level dressage as a 7-year-old, before being sold as an amateur's mount. Charleston's temperament, trainability (it is not typical for a horse to be already competing at Fourth Level dressage as a 7-year-old), and his
success in dressage competition led us to do two things -- add a Pieter fan Lutke Peinjum offspring to our small broodmare herd, and introduce Percheron blood to our breeding program (Charleston's pedigree also contained Percheron blood) -- both of which were
accomplished with the purchase of Koloa.
Koloa exceeded our expectations. She is easy to keep, easy to breed, easy to foal, and a good mother. She has also proven herself to be a mare who consistently throws foals nicer than herself. She has had five consecutive Friesian Sporthorse foals, four from AI and one from live cover, and all pregnancies were achieved from the first insemination. After having four colts in a row, in 2011 Koloa finally gave us a filly. We are offering Koloa for sale because we would
like to keep her 2011 filly as a future addition to our broodmare herd.
Because we are a small farm we can't keep an unlimited number of horses --
so in order to keep her filly, we are offering Koloa for sale.
Koloa is currently open. This is not due to failed insemination attempts or any other sort of problem -- we did not even attempt to breed her in 2011. We knew she'd be offered for sale
once her filly was weaned, and it was tough to predict whether people would prefer an in-foal
mare or not, so ultimately we gave her a year off from pregnancy.
Koloa has spent the last five years as a broodmare and is not broke to ride.
Koloa has a COP from the Friesian Sporthorse Association (FSA). She is capable of producing Auxiliary Book Friesian Sporthorse foals (if bred to acceptable stallions).
